Prioritization is an art…

“I have so much work, I have no time to make priorities”

How often do you say this to yourself?

Prioritization is an art that only few people master well.

Many of us have too much work on our plate. There are too many tasks and projects and everything is equally important.

Management is not always supportive, because resources are limited and deadlines must be met.

So ….we just work a little harder and longer to get things done.

Does this sound familiar? Has this given you stress? Is this effecting your work-life balance or even your well-being?

Very often, we expect our management to prioritize, however….
✓ It is easy to make a list of projects.
✓ It is more difficult to rank these in order of importance and urgency.
✓ It is really hard to decide what to do with the projects that are low on the priority list. Nobody likes to make the tough decision to postpone or cancel a project….

What do YOU do if your management does not set clear priorities?
1. I work harder and harder to get all projects done. I never drop a ball.
2. I set my own priorities and focus more on the project(s) that I like.
3. I discuss my workload with my manager again and hope for clearer guidance.
4. I explain to my manager that I am unable to deliver all projects on time with high quality. I propose to take project X OR project Y of my list. He/she can chose which one.
5. I have another way to deal with this that works well….If so, please let us know in the chat!

Whatever option you choose is OK. Each of these have consequences, some are of benefit to your well-being, others are not…. Choose wisely.
